Supporting Dean Owens at The Dorset Arms

fullsizeoutput_3feThe announcement has been under wraps for a while but we can finally let everyone know that we’re supporting the great Dean Owens for his gig at The Dorset Arms on 5th April, hosted by 2205 Promotions.

We’re delighted to be chosen as the support act!

Dean Owens is one Scotland’s finest singer/songwriters. Armed with a searingly soulful voice, skillfully crafted stories and memorably heart-twisting melodies, he is a compelling and engaging live performer, with an emotional hurricane of stories and songs. His band.

In September 2017 he became the first Scottish musician to officially showcase at the prestigious Americanafest in Nashville. His visit included a guest spot with the Mavericks at their “allstar” show at the Basement East… and a mention in Rolling Stone.

His new album, released in January 2018 “Southern Wind” is receiving rave reviews and much airplay on National radio.

Glowing 4 STAR review in MOJO Magazine for Southern Wind – “Owens hits a sweet spot… delivers straight and true on his self proclaimed Celtic spirit, country soul”
4 STARS from Country Music Magazine – “a rousing vulnerability that at times recalls Richard Ashcroft…”
5 STARS from Country Music People – “Owens’ talent borders on genius… A List” –

More gigs in March

NtH4 180212 Spring has definitely arrived for the band this year – we’re very excited to announce two more gigs for March, and they’re both crackers!

Nowhere To Hide are playing at The Grey Lady Music Lounge on March 27th, one of the regular amazing showcases in the Paul Dunton & Guests – Local Music By Candlelight series. Always a delight to play these sessions, and thanks Paul for asking us back!

Ahead of that we’re on our own turf on Thursday March 8th, playing the Hop Sessions. These happen on the second Thursday of every month and they’re organised by our very own Anna Howie. Beautiful music – mostly acoustic – always  in the wonderful setting of the Hop Yard, Forest Row. Again, big thanks to Anna for having us again.

Two gigs with Anna Howie!

Anna GL

Lucky me! Not only does Anna Howie play and sing in Nowhere To Hide, but I get to play in her band too! Last night we were at The Grey Lady, Tunbridge Wells, and on Thursday we’re playing at New Music At The Dorset in East Grinstead.

Yesterday we had the full band which also has Roger Nunn on drums and Martin Smith on bass, and we played a set of Anna’s rather wonderful songs, plus a cover (Dakota). The lovely Sharon Blaikie joined us for two of them. What a great evening! a warm, friendly crowd, great acts (Mair Murphy and Infra Red), fab sound and everything held together as always by Paul Dunton. Paul runs these sessions at the Grey Lady an unbelievable three times A WEEK, as well as running shows in many other venues and fronting his own band – the Paul Dunton Orchestra.

We had a ball! Thank you Paul and everyone who was there.

Now we’re looking forward to Thursday, which will be just Anna and me. Another songwriting showcase, and always a real treat to play at. Come along, say hi, and discover what you missed yesterday!

It’s upstairs at The Dorset Arms, High Street, East Grinstead RH19 3DE. Music starts around 8.00pm

New ep on the way

Image 08-01-2018 at 13.47 (1)

Nowhere To Hide has been back in the studio laying down tracks for a new ep, as yet to titled, and I’m ridiculously happy with the way it’s all sounding! Not only is the band on top form but we’re lucky to be working with Martin Smith at his studio in East Grinstead.

Martin started the studio in late 1987 after a term in the Electric Light Orchestra, following a career as a producer, musician and writer spanning the previous two decades and he’s worked with artists including Franz Ferdinand, Gabriella Cilmi, Girls Aloud, Woody Woodmansey, Tina Charles and many others. In short, he really knows his stuff.

So where have got to? Well, we’ve recorded four tracks – Nowhere To Hide, Wrong Again, This Far and A Broad Thought From Home – all written by me. We’ve even got the mixing finished. Now the tracks are to go off for mastering before we can finally get them pressed to CD and all the other ways of getting them heard.

Watch this space for previews and more info.
